Our Programs
At Northview Montessori, we offer thoughtfully designed programs for toddlers (ages 2-3) and preschool/kindergarten children (ages 3-6). Our toddler program nurtures your child's natural curiosity and budding independence in a peaceful, supportive environment. Specially trained teachers guide toddlers through practical life activities, language development, and sensory experiences, laying a strong foundation for future learning while respecting each child's individual pace.
Our preschool and Kindergarten classrooms feature a multi-age setting where children learn and grow together over a three-year period. This environment fosters peer learning, leadership skills, and a deep sense of community. Certified Montessori teachers act as guides, providing individualized instruction and a carefully prepared environment that encourages exploration and discovery. Children engage in hands-on learning experiences across various subjects, developing academic skills alongside social-emotional growth, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Northview Montessori offers enriching programs for both toddlers (typically age 2-3) and preschool and kindergarten children (age 3-6). Our toddler program nurtures curiosity and independence in a supportive environment. For older children, our multi-age preschool & Kindergarten classrooms foster peer learning and leadership skills. Certified Montessori teachers guide individualized learning experiences, encouraging exploration and discovery. In all Northview classrooms, children develop academic, social, and emotional skills, building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Curriculum
Practical Life
Our Practical Life curriculum is a cornerstone of the Montessori approach, designed to develop children's independence, confidence, and fine motor skills through hands-on activities. By engaging in tasks such as food preparation, using tools, cleaning, and self-care, children learn to focus their attention, follow sequences, and develop the coordination needed for future academic skills. Exercises like pouring, scooping, using tongs, preparing snacks, and practicing social graces emphasize the process rather than the product. Our Practical Life area creates capable, confident learners who take pride in caring for themselves, their environment, and their community.
Sensorial Studies
Our Sensorial Development curriculum capitalizes on early childhood's "sensitive period" for sensory perception, refining children's five senses using Montessori materials. Our students learn to distinguish visual, tactile, auditory, olfactory, and gustatory cues, developing crucial perceptual skills. This curriculum also lays the foundation for mathematical thinking by fostering three key abilities: perceiving differences (in thickness, weight, texture, shape, and length), recognizing similarities (in color, pitch, smell, or texture), and understanding graded series (arranging objects from heavy to light, large to small, etc.).
Language Arts
Our comprehensive Language Arts curriculum nurtures both receptive (listening and reading) and expressive (speaking and writing) language skills. We begin with foundational activities like ear training, visual discrimination, and phonemic awareness, gradually progressing to reading. Our approach incorporates Montessori materials such as Sandpaper Letters and the Movable Alphabet, alongside a rich library of leveled books. Students develop fluency, comprehension, and critical thinking skills while exploring topics of personal interest. Handwriting skills are cultivated through a series of preparatory activities, leading to proper letter formation.
Mathematics
Our Mathematics curriculum uses carefully designed Montessori materials to transform abstract concepts into concrete experiences. Children progress through a structured sequence, exploring quantity, the decimal system, place value, and basic operations. Students discover mathematical patterns and gradually transition to more abstract thinking. Our teachers guide students to make real-world connections, ensuring deep understanding. This concrete-to-abstract approach allows each child to progress at their own pace, building a solid foundation that fosters genuine appreciation for mathematics and prepares them for advanced concepts.
Social & Emotional
Our Social and Emotional curriculum is a foundational component of our childcare program, recognizing its critical role in brain development and future success. Our approach encompasses five key areas: identifying and expressing feelings, fostering self-reliance and autonomy, teaching grace and courtesy, developing social skills and empathy, and cultivating leadership. Through carefully guided experiences, children learn to recognize and manage emotions, develop self-control, and practice conflict resolution. We emphasize respect for others, encourage self-care and responsibility, and provide opportunities for children to take on leadership roles as they grow.
Science
Our Science curriculum is designed to nurture children's innate curiosity about the world around them. It focuses on topics that naturally fascinate young toddler, preschool, and Kindergarten minds, including seasons, weather, plants, animals, and the human body. Through hands-on experiments, children are introduced to cause-and-effect relationships and the scientific method. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, from sorting living and non-living things to exploring the solar system and dinosaurs. Practical activities like caring for classroom plants, gardening, and studying life cycles provide tangible learning experiences.
Geography
Our Geography and Cultural Studies curriculum nurtures children's natural curiosity about the world. Through hands-on exploration with globes, puzzle maps, and specially designed Montessori materials, children learn about continents, countries, states, and geographical formations. The cultural component begins with an exploration of family traditions within the classroom community, gradually expanding to encompass global cultures. This approach not only imparts geographical knowledge but also fosters understanding, tolerance, and compassion for diverse cultures, helping to shape globally-aware and empathetic individuals.
Art
Our Art curriculum emphasizes the creative process over the final product, encouraging free exploration and experimentation with a variety of materials. Our toddler, preschool, and Kindergarten students have daily access to activities such as cutting, painting, drawing, coloring, gluing, and threading, allowing them to engage with art at their own pace and interest. While teachers introduce specific projects and basic artistic techniques like color-mixing and brush strokes, these are presented as optional activities without pressure to complete or conform to a particular standard. This approach balances guided instruction with self-directed creativity, fostering imagination and self-expression.
